Amanda, I’ve loved reading your first substack and congratulations on a really engaging insight into the massive changes you’ve embraced! I am in awe of what you’ve had to do to get yourself to this point, and I love your inspiring mindset to make the most of all that the desert life offers! Your photos are wonderful and I look forward to the next instalment!! You are an amazing person!!!

Really enjoyed reading this Amanda - such good writing. Isn’t it fascinating how we view space & land - ‘there’s nothing there’…. Your pictures of the holes in the red earth reminded me of the minutes I spent staring at holes as a little kid in WA waiting for the occupants to emerge. Look forward to reading more. Xx

I’m so happy you will be not only sharing your life living in remote Australia but also that you’re sharing your writing again! I’ve always loved the engaging way you write. From the letters you wrote to me as kid, to your published articles and books I would pore over, to the editing you would do of my writing from time to time, I’ve always been in awe of your inate writing skill and style. I will look forward to your weekly musings and in between will keep enjoying ‘Bingo’ and ‘Louie’ updates.

I have a question Amanda - what’s that second piece of artwork that looks like fabrics of beautiful different colours? I want it! You are so talented.

Hi Kay, I really appreciate your support and for believing in me. That piece you are referring to is a cardboard box covered in discarded paints on paper from my painting class at TAFE! Hope that makes sense! Xxx

Amanda for as long as we’ve been close mates (over 4 decades) I’ve never known you to shirk a challenge, be idle, lack courage, or pass up an adventure. So when you told me you were going on this probable life changing trip I wasn’t in the least surprised. But-as usual when it comes to you and your doings-I was in awe. Congratulations on successfully driving so far and so remotely (a challenge in itself!) and for continuing to have the guts that I could never match. I agree with Catherine - in an exciting, thrilling, potentially poleaxing environment you are making the most of what desert life offers. I think of you as I whinge about having no A/C - which makes me stop whinging! You go girl! Xx
